What is optimism? I don’t understand it. Optimism is often described as seeing the glass half-full. But “half-full” is really just semantics. Truthfully, half-full is the same as half-empty. The only difference is the words you use and the influence the words have on your perception.
Therefore if you are choosing to be optimistic, then you are choosing to see things in a certain way. If you are choosing to see things in a certain way instead of as the world appears to be, then what’s the point of being truthful or being honest?
To me optimism is like ignoring reality because you can’t really accept the messages that your senses are sending to you. Optimism is like lying to your self, but the thing about this particular lie is that it lulls you into a state of complacency. If the world really is going down the toilet, then optimism is your enemy.
